Team building is an integral aspect of the KMS philosophy.? To jump start the connectedness of seventh grade teams, both Team 1 and Team 2 will participate in field trips to Carroll County YMCA Camp Huckins in Freedom, NH.? Students and teachers are led through introductory team building and safety exercises, before heading into the woods to meet challenges on eight elements of the low ropes/challenge course.? eager parent-volunteers help YMCA staff to run groups of 9-11 students through each of the challenges.? A boat horn signals time to rotate to a new obstacle, and two blasts means lunchtime.? after lunch, the whole team will head to ?The Wall? and every team member has the opportunity to test themselves in scaling over the 12 foot obstacle.? it is continually amazing to see the positive dynamics develop in each group, and the creativity with which the challenges are attacked.? The foundations?of teamwork, self-respect and respect for peers, the team and entire school community are always greatly enhanced by this annual early field trip for seventh grade team members.? not just a day off from academics, but valuable social skills, positive attitudes, trust and respect are quickly developed on the Camp Huckins Field Trip.
