?DineEquity Inc., parent company of Applebee?s Neighborhood Bar & Grill and IHOP Restaurants, has signed an asset purchase agreement with American Franchise Capital LLC to sell 33 company-owned Applebee?s units located primarily in Missouri and Indiana. This marks the first Applebee?s acquisition for American Franchise Capital, although the company?s managing partner, William Georgas, previously served as co-managing owner of The Georgas Group, a franchise company that operated 47 Applebee?s units. The transaction is slated to close in the third quarter of this year and is expected to total about $26 million after taxes. DineEquity acquired the 2,018-unit Applebee?s chain in 2007 and has since sold 342 company-owned locations to franchisees, with the ultimate plan of becoming a 99% franchised restaurant chain. After this deal with American Franchise Capital is completed, in addition to another pending sale of 39 Applebee?s units in Virginia, the brand will be 97% franchised.

?Private members club Soho House is expanding into five new markets by the end of 2014, including Toronto, Chicago, Mumbai, Istanbul and Barcelona. Soho House Toronto is slated to open this fall with at least two food and beverage lounges, while Soho House Chicago is expected to open in spring 2014 and will have three restaurants, as well as a rooftop lounge boasting a glass-enclosed bar and kitchen, an outdoor deck and a 60-foot pool. The additional three new Soho Houses have planned openings in 2014. Soho House debuted in London in 1995 and has since expanded into New York City, Los Angeles and throughout Europe.

This weeks Wednesday Blog Hop is :Tell me more about your connection to disability.

My connection to disability started when I met my friend Ashley, when I was around 12 or 13 years old.? Ashley's sister, Tracey, had a genetic disorder called Prader-Willi Syndrome.? Tracey was only a couple of years older than us.? Her favorite activities were sticker books, coloring, baby dolls, playing card games, and eating at TCBY.? She loved going to church, and she loved our Pastor.? Sometimes she loved the pastor a little too much, and Ashley and I would have to convince her not to tell off the pastor's wife, because, well, that just wouldn't be nice.? Tracey had a boyfriend and many people that loved her.??And she was?happy.? Along with?Prader-Willi came her biggest struggle: eating.? You see, Tracey couldn't just eat a meal and feel satisfied.? She was always hungry.? I think you would really have to?witness it to understand, but?the best way to describe?would be to compare it to what a crack addict would do to?get their fix.? Tracey's mom had to keep the pantry locked at all times, and they had a pad lock on the refrigerator, because, like I said, she would never be satisfied.??For the most part, Tracey was child-like,?she had physical limitations from her obesity, and along with that, she had health issues.??During my teen years, when I spent a lot of time with the family, I remember?health concerns here and there that would come up:? sleep apnea and some hospital stays here and there.? But for the most part,?Tracey led a very normal life.? She went to school, did things with?her family, drove her sister nuts, went to church and all of our soccer games.? She played?card games with Justus, who is now my step-son.? By the time I got to college, however,?her health was not doing as well, and?it was harder for her to get around.? Eventually, she?could no longer walk due to all of the weight that her tiny frame was carrying, and she was confined to a bed.? At Christmas time, my best friend's sister's?husband, who?is also now my step-son's step-dad (ok, try to figure that out.? I dare you).? Anyway, so he dressed up like Santa, because Tracey loved Santa Claus, and he gave her presents and just sat and talked with her.??She smiled from ear to ear when she was with Santa.? At the time, I was pregnant with Madison, but this was a matter that held a bit of contention.? Because Tracey loved Brad.? Brad spent a lot of time with Tracey, hanging out and talking with?her.? Then, when I came home from college on break, I was taking her "Brother Brad" time, and she wasn't happy about it.? So when I told Tracey that I?had a baby in my belly, I?believe her answer was, "No! Shut up, Tricia."? But?the way she said my name sounded more like?"sissy".? It wasn't long after that, that she would pass away from the complications of her health issues.

I have no doubts that those last years of Tracey's life were hard on her?family and her, as she was sick.? But I also know that whenever we talk about Tracey, we never talk about the times when she was sick or in the hospital.? We?talk about how she loved Santa.? We talk about the time that she colored on Ashley's face with a permanent black marker while she was?sleeping, because she had been mean to her earlier that day or walking down to the corner to get a snowball together, or the way she could put together a 1,000 piece puzzle upside down without even looking at the picture.? These were the things that mattered.? These were the things we loved.

So I guess?I have?had a unique?experience that many people in my situation have not had.? I learned a lot from Tracey.? I learned that someone with a disability can be loved by many.? They can lead happy, fulfilling lives.? When I found out Kamdyn has Down syndrome, most of these lessons were still buried deep within me, and it took a while for them to come out.? But now, I have no doubts that God led us all together, because?He knew all along that I was Kamdyn's?Mommy.

If the world of disability were a course, my time with Tracey would?be Disability 101.

Now, for anyone who doesn't follow here regularly, I have a 2 year old daughter.

Iran: 'Flame' virus fight began with oil attack

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? Computer technicians battling to contain a complex virus last month resorted to the ultimate firewall measures ? cutting off Internet links to Iran's Oil Ministry, rigs and the hub for nearly all the country's crude exports.

At the time, Iranian officials described it as a data-siphoning blitz on key oil networks.

On Wednesday, they gave it a name: A strike by the powerful "Flame" malware that experts this week have called a new and highly sophisticated program capable of hauling away computer files and even listening in on computer users. Its origins remain a mystery, but international suspicion quickly fell on Israel opening another front in its suspected covert wars with archenemy Tehran.

"This virus penetrated some fields. One of them was the oil sector," said Gholam Reza Jalali, who heads an Iranian military unit in charge of fighting sabotage. "Fortunately, we detected and controlled this single incident."

The Flame virus ? a mix of cyberspy and hard-drive burglar ? has been detected across the Middle East recently. But Iran's linkage to the oil network attack in April could mark its first major infiltration and suggests a significant escalation in attempts to disrupt Iran's key commercial and nuclear sites. Iran is one of the world's leading oil producers.

Two years ago, a virus called Stuxnet tailored to disrupt Iran's nuclear centrifuges caused some setbacks within its uranium enrichment labs and infected an estimated 16,000 computers, Iranian officials say. At least two other smaller viruses have been detected in nuclear and industrial centers.

The Flame program, however, is widely considered as a technological leap in break-in programming. Some experts also see the same high level of engineering shared by Stuxnet, which many suspect was the work of Israeli intelligence.

"It is very complex and very sophisticated," said Marco Obiso, cybersecurity coordinator at the U.N.'s International Telecommunication Union in Geneva. "It's one of the most serious yet."

Israel, a world leader in computer security, has never confirmed or denied any involvement in Stuxnet or other viruses that have hit Iranian networks nationwide.

Israel fears that Iran's nuclear program is geared toward developing a weapon that might be turned against it and Israel itself is believed to have nuclear weapons.

Israeli leaders have repeatedly said that "all options are on the table," a phrase that is widely interpreted as meaning the possibility of a military strike and other measures that could include cyberwarfare.

Already, Iran and Israel have traded accusations of carrying out clandestine hits and attack conspiracies in locales stretching from the Baku to Bangkok.

Iran claims Israeli agents are behind the slayings of at least five nuclear scientists and researchers since 2010. Earlier this month, Iran hanged a man convicted of carrying out one of the killings after allegedly being trained by Israel's Mossad spy agency. Israel denied any role.

Authorities in several countries, meanwhile, are investigating possible Iranian links to bombings and plots against Israeli targets and others, including a wide-ranging probe in Azerbaijan's capital Baku.

On the cyber front, Iran says it has sharply boosted its defenses by creating special computer corps to protect crucial online infrastructure. Iran also claims it seeks to build its own Internet buffered from the global web, but experts have raised serious questions about its feasibility.

Iran's Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ali Hakim Javadi was quoted by the official IRNA news agency Wednesday as saying that Iranian experts have produced an anti-virus program capable of identifying and removing Flame.

"The anti-virus software was delivered to selected organizations in early May," he said.

That would have been at least two weeks after officials say it penetrated Iran's Oil Ministry and related sites. Within hours, technicians decided to close off the Internet connections to the ministry, oil rigs and the Khark Island oil terminal, the jump off point for about 80 percent of Iran's daily 2.2 million barrels of crude exports.

Gholam Reza Jalali, who heads an Iranian military unit in charge of fighting sabotage, told state radio that the oil industry was the only governmental body seriously affected and that all data lost were later retrieved.

"This virus penetrated some fields. One of them was the oil sector. Fortunately, we detected and controlled this single incident," Jalali said.

Obiso, whose agency is helping to direct the international response to Flame, said the virus first came to the group's attention in mid-April and researchers have been working on unraveling its code since.

"We still think Flame has much more to show," he said.

The Russian Internet security firm Kaspersky Lab ZAO said the Flame virus has struck Iran the hardest, but has been detected in the Palestinian territories, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

It also has been found in Israel ? leading some Israeli security officials to suggest the virus could be traced to the U.S. or other Western nations.

Experts describe it as a multitasking mole. It can wipe data off hard drives, but also be a tireless eavesdropper by activating audio systems to listen in on Skype calls or office chatter. It also can also take screenshots, log keystrokes and ? in one of its more novel functions? steal data from Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones.

Israeli's vice premier on Tuesday did little to deflect suspicion about the country's possible involvement.

"Whoever sees the Iranian threat as a significant threat is likely to take various steps, including these, to hobble it," Moshe Yaalon told Army Radio when asked about Flame. "Israel is blessed with high technology, and we boast tools that open all sorts of opportunities for us."

Iran says is has previously discovered one more espionage virus, Duqu, but that the malware did no harm Iran's nuclear or industrial sites. Jalali said Flame is the third.

Dozens of unexplained explosions also have hit the country's gas pipelines in the past two years. Officials have not linked them to cyberattacks, but authorities have not closed the books on the investigations.

Shakil Afridi Trial: Family Of Pakistan Doctor In Bin Laden Hunt Calls Trial A Sham

PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- The family of the Pakistani doctor sentenced to 33 years in prison for helping the United States track down Osama bin Laden said Monday the man is innocent and dismissed his trial as a sham.

The conviction of Shakil Afridi last week added another pressure point in Pakistan's already fractured relationship with the U.S. Senior American officials have urged Pakistan to release the doctor, and regard him as a hero who worked to stop the terrorist leader. Islamabad views Afridi as a traitor who colluded with a foreign intelligence agency in an illegal operation on Pakistani soil.

Afridi ran a vaccination campaign on behalf of the CIA to collect blood samples of bin Laden's family at a compound in Abbottabad where U.S. commandos killed the al-Qaida leader in May 2011. The samples were intended to help the U.S. match the family's DNA to verify his presence in the garrison city.

Afridi's older brother Jamil and two lawyers representing the doctor said at a news conference in the frontier city of Peshawar that they will appeal the verdict, which was handed down last week in a tribal court whose proceedings were never made public.

"This was a one-sided decision," said Jamil. "All allegations against him are false. He didn't do anything against the national interest."

Afridi was tried under the Frontier Crimes Regulations, the set of laws that govern Pakistan's semiautonomous tribal region. The FCR doesn't allow suspects to have legal representation, present material evidence or cross-examine witnesses. Verdicts are handled by a government official in consultation with a council of elders, instead of by a judge.

The raid by American commandos infuriated Pakistani officials who were not told ahead of time or of the CIA operation in their country to track him down. Afridi was arrested in the weeks after the raid. He was convicted and sentenced last week for conspiring against the state.

The lawyers said authorities have not given them documents related to the case, including a copy of the verdict.

Afridi's brother said the doctor had an American visa and pointed out that he stayed in Pakistan after the bin Laden raid for 20 days, and didn't leave the country.

"Had he been guilty, he would have escaped," Jamil Afridi said.

He did not comment on whether he thought his brother should have helped the U.S.

The case puts the family in a delicate situation. Anti-American sentiment is widespread in Pakistan, and people who are viewed as supporting the U.S. or working for Washington are sometimes targeted by militants, especially in the tribal areas.

In his first comments on Afridi's conviction, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called Afridi's actions "wrong" but said he had the right to a fair trial.

"He should be given a right to justice," Gilani said in an interview to Geo TV to be broadcast Monday night. Asked how would he could get justice, Gilani said, "through the normal courts."

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta on Sunday criticized Pakistan over Afridi's conviction and sentencing, calling it "disturbing."

U.S.-Pakistani relations plummeted to new lows in November, when American airstrikes inadvertently killed 24 Pakistani soldiers, prompting Islamabad to block U.S. and NATO supply lines into Afghanistan.

Pakistan has demanded an apology over the raid and an end to drone strikes against militants along the Afghan border as a precursor to reopening the supply lines.

The U.S. has shown no sign of stopping the covert CIA attacks, which have picked up pace this week after a lull for most of the year. The latest attack came late Sunday and killed five suspected Islamist militants in North Waziristan region, Pakistani officials said Monday. The identities of the dead were not known, but the region is home to al-Qaida militants and insurgents fighting in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The attack was the fourth in less than a week.

Tony Blair defends Murdoch friendship | The Enlightening ...

RIMANEWS-Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has defended his friendship with Rupert Murdoch, saying it was "a working relationship" until he left office.

Mr Blair told the Leveson Inquiry he had not changed any policies to please the newspapers owned by Murdoch.

He added he would not have become godfather to one of Murdoch's children based on their relationship in office.

Earlier, a protester had to be ejected after getting into the court and calling Mr Blair a "war criminal".

The inquiry is investigating press standards, and currently focusing on the relationship between the press and politicians.

"It was a relationship about power," said Mr Blair. "I find these relationships are not personal; they are working [relationships], to me."

He added: "Despite all this stuff about me being godfather to one of his children. I would not have been godfather to one of his children on the basis of my relationship in office.

"After I left office I got to know him. Now it's different. It's not the same."

Close interaction

Mr Blair admitted he had "flown half way round the world" to Hayman Island, Australia, to meet Mr Murdoch and News Corporation executives when he was Labour leader in 1995.

He said he wanted to persuade the organisation against "tearing us to pieces".

Mr Blair said a close relationship was inevitable but also involved a "certain level of tension".

"If you look back over time there's nothing wrong and indeed it would, it would be strange frankly if senior people in the media and senior politicians didn't have that close interaction," he said.

The former PM said the views of the press on issues ranging from the trade unions to Europe had not affected his approach.

"I don't know a policy that we changed as a result of Rupert Murdoch," he said.

In his written statement, Mr Blair says his government "more often than not" rejected the views expressed by the Murdoch media, and he provided six examples of when the Labour government had shown such robustness.

These included preventing BSkyB's takeover of Manchester United and granting new channels to the BBC.

In fact the strongest lobbying he had received from a media organisation during his time in office was from the BBC over the licence fee, he told the hearing.

Mr Blair told the inquiry that, at its best, British journalism was the best in the world.

But he said the word "unhealthy" rather than "cosy" was a better description of the relationship in some cases between journalists and those in power.

Mr Blair made a range of points in his evidence, including:

• He had not taken on the media as it would have provoked a major confrontation and he had not wanted that to detract from other policy goals.

• The Sun and the Daily Mail were the two most powerful newspapers. The Sun was important because it was prepared to shift its political allegiance
• It was important to get the Sun "on board" and former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks mattered because she was editor at the time. But the decision-maker was Mr Murdoch not Mrs Brooks
• He defended his decision to send Rebekah Brooks a message of support after the phone hacking scandal erupted as he was "not a fair-weather friend"

• Mr Blair revealed his wife Cherie had taken or considered legal action about press coverage on more than 30 occasions.

• He said a certain amount of comment was "perfectly legitimate" but some of the papers, particularly the Daily Mail, "took it too far and it turned into a personal vendetta" He said some sections of the media "say 'right, we are going to go for that person'", adding: "That's not journalism. In my view it's an abuse of power".

Proceedings were interrupted for around 20 seconds during Monday morning's session when the protester, who told reporters his name was David Lawley-Wakelin from the Alternative Iraq Enquiry, burst in.

Lord Justice Leveson apologised to Mr Blair and questioned how the man was able to enter the court through what should have been a secure corridor. The man was removed and an investigation was immediately ordered.

Mr Blair said on the record that there was no truth in the allegation, made by the protester, that he had been "paid off" by the US banking giant JP Morgan for the Iraq War.

The man has been released without charge after being arrested on suspicion of a breach of the peace.

At the close of Monday's session, Lord Justice Leveson gave a strong indication of the measures he believed were needed to remedy the problems with the press following the phone-hacking scandal.

"Whatever comes out of this must be independent of government, independent of the state, independent of parliament but independent of the press," he said.

Also being considered are measures to improve systems of redress for the public and a mechanism for intervening before damaging stories are published.

The former prime minister is the first of several senior politicians due to appear at the inquiry this week, including Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt on Thursday.

Fitch Affirms Vodafone's Debt Ratings at 'A-'; Outlook Stable

Fitch Ratings has affirmed Vodafone Group's Long-term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) and senior unsecured rating at 'A-', and its Short-term IDR at 'F2'. The Outlook on the Long-term IDR is Stable.

?Fitch said that Vodafone's strengths include its global scale, diverse operations, sound liquidity, and good cash flow generation. The trend in underlying European revenue remains challenging, with emerging markets (27% of consolidated FY12 operating free cash flow) continuing to drive growth. Vodafone expects EBITDA margin erosion to slow as management maintains its focus on cost controls, especially in Europe. Continued network and spectrum investments should enable the company to benefit from increased demand for higher-quality mobile data services.

The Stable Outlook reflects a credit profile that has the flexibility of absorbing a sluggish macroeconomic environment and continued competitive pressure. The expectation of continued substantial dividend payments by Verizon Wireless should help Vodafone absorb potential risks from the eurozone periphery (which accounts for around 35% of consolidated FY12 operating free cash flow) and an uncertain regulatory and legal framework in India.

"The start of significant and ongoing dividend receipts from Verizon Wireless considerably improves Vodafone's credit profile," says Damien Chew, Senior Director in Fitch's European Telecoms, Media and Technology team. "It should give Vodafone the headroom to continue investing in spectrum and network quality, and the flexibility to navigate an uncertain operating environment."

With the increasing relevance of dividends from Verizon Wireless, Fitch believes using funds from operations (FFO) adjusted net leverage is a more appropriate measure to judge leverage, which at end-March 2012 was around 2.1x. Expectation of FFO adjusted net leverage being sustained above 2.5x would put pressure downward pressure on Vodafone's rating. A deterioration in the company's operating environment, such as a worsening of the eurozone crisis or a significant increase in regulatory or competitive pressure, could also lead to negative rating action.

Fitch believes there is still some level of acquisition risk, given that in-country consolidation opportunities may arise in Vodafone's countries of operations, but this is more muted due to management's demonstrated financial discipline and commitment to maintaining its 'A-' rating.

Liquidity remains strong. Vodafone had GBP7.1bn of cash and cash equivalents on its balance sheet at the end-March 2012, as well as GBP987m of liquid index-linked UK government bonds and almost GBP8bn equivalent of undrawn committed facilities. This compares with GBP2.2bn in outstanding commercial paper and around GBP4bn of short-term debt at the end of March 2012.

The Italian Texas BBQ Burger

The last couple of months I?ve been creating recipe using Johnsonville products and then sharing those recipes here with you (hopefully you?ve been enjoying them). The first month I created the Italian Sausage Rigatoni in Tomato Basil Sauce with Peppers and Kale and then last month I created the Whole Wheat Pancake Sausage Muffins.

This month my challenge was to create No Ordinary Burger using either the new Johnsonville Brat or Johnsonville Italian Sausage Patties. Since my store did not carry the Johnsonville Brat Patties, I created my burger using Johnsonville Italian Sausage Patties.

This is definitely a messy burger and not for the faint of heart. It?s big, it?s flavorful and it?s delicious.? But, the best part of this burger is that it?s super simple to make.

The Italian Texas BBQ Burger

Ingredients

• 6 hamburger buns
• 6 Johnsonville Italian Sausage Patties
• 6 slices thick-cut bacon
• 6 slices cheese (we used Pepper Jack)
• 6 tablespoons of your favorite barbeque sauce
• 12-18 onion rings (2-3 per burger)

Directions

1. Preheat grill to medium-low. Place frozen patties on the grill. Grill 15-18 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160?F, turning occasionally. While the patties are cooking away on the grill, start cooking the onion rings as directed on the package and fry the bacon until it?s slightly crispy. Drain the excess grease by placing the bacon on a couple sheets of paper towels.
2. To assemble the burger, starting from the bottom up, place cooked Johnsonville Italian Sausage Pattie on bottom hamburger bun. Top with cheese, barbeque sauce, onion rings and finish with the bacon. Place the top hamburger bun on top of the pile of goodness and ENJOY!

If you are a fan of Italian Sausage, then you?ll really appreciate the boldness and full flavor of this burger. It?s definitely a different flavor from the beef burger you?re used to, but I think you?ll like it.

The pictures really do not do this burger justice.? It was after dark when we made these, so the lack of natural lighting really did nothing at all for the pictures. ?But regardless of picture quality, you should definitely give the Johnsonville Italian Sausage Patties a try.

Disaster Response, Recovery, and the Future of Japan-United States Relations One Year after the Great East Japan Earthquake

One year ago, a devastating earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis struck northeast Japan. On March 9, the 21st Century Defense Initiative and the Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies at Brookings hosted Ichiro Fujisaki, ambassador of Japan to the United States; Major General Mark A. Brilakis, assistant deputy commandant (programs), Programs & Resources Department, of the U.S. Marine Corps; and Marc Knapper, director, Office of Japanese Affairs, U.S. Department of State,?for a discussion of the ongoing response efforts, as well as the region?s continuing geostrategic importance.

Ambassador Fujisaki provided a status update on Japan?s progress after a year of recovery and the challenges that still lie ahead, while Major General Brilakis, who commanded the Joint Forces Land Component of Operation Tomodachi, revisited America?s disaster relief operations in the hours, days and weeks following the triple disaster. Mark Knapper, the director of the Office of Japanese Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, addressed the future of U.S.-Japan relations and what the United States? strategic pivot to the Asia-Pacific could hold for future cooperation. Senior Fellow Richard C. Bush, director of the Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies, moderated the discussion.
