Jerry Seinfeld vs. Donald Trump in New Celeb Feud!

Jerry Seinfeld vs. Donald Trump in New Celeb Feud!

If Donald Trump does indeed run for President, he won't be getting an endorsement from Jerry Seinfeld. The comedian, 56, recently dropped out of a Trump-sponsored charity event because he disagreed with the Donald's "birther" views. (For the uninitiated, Trump is part of a group, known as the birthers, that wants Obama to disclose his birth certificate to prove that he was born in the U.S. -- and thus eligible to be president.)

Needless to say, the Celebrity Apprentice creator didn't take it well. In an open letter to Seinfeld, Trump attacks the comedian for dropping out of the event, which is being thrown by his son, Eric Trump, to benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"I just learned you canceled a show for my son's charity because of the fact that I am being very aggressive with respect to President Obama, who is doing an absolutely terrible job as our leader," begins Trump's letter, before launching into a no-holds-barred attack on Seinfeld.

"We don't care that you broke your commitment, even though the children of St. Jude are very disappointed, and despite the fact that your manager clearly stated you are 'truly a man of his word,'" the Donald continued. "What I do feel badly about is that I agreed to do, and did, your failed show, The Marriage Ref, even though I thought it was absolutely terrible... Despite its poor ratings, I didn't cancel on you like you canceled on my son and St. Jude. I only wish I did."

In conclusion, Trump tells Seinfeld, "You should be ashamed of yourself!" Trump also announced that he'd replaced Seinfeld with rocker Bret Michaels.

In the comedian's defense, Seinfeld's rep says that Jerry agreed to the benefit before Trump started teasing his presidential run, and that he "has grown increasingly uncomfortable" with Trump's comments about Obama's citizenship. Although Seinfeld withdrew from the event, he made a financial contribution to both the Eric Trump Foundation and St. Jude's -- which you'd think would count for something.

While Trump has always been outspoken (especially about anyone who makes him angry -- that would be you, Rosie O'Donnell), Seinfeld had been pretty mild-mannered until recently. Lately it seems like he's mouthing off on everything -- calling the royal wedding a "circus act" and Lady Gaga a "jerk." Clearly, he's got his own opinions -- and, as the standoff with Trump demonstrates, his own principles. Maybe Seinfeld should be the one running for office!
